ACM Management and Abatement Guidelines From the Health and Safety Authority

When dealing with Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM), it is imperative that the guidelines set down for its safe removal and disposal are followed to the letter. Failure to do this when asbestos is found to be present, puts everyone in the vicinity in grave danger due to the hazardous nature of this material.

To improve awareness of the problem, The Health and Safety Authority (the Irish regulatory body, formed in 1989) have put together a comprehensive guide to all the rules governing the actions to be taken when asbestos is found or known to be present in the workplace.

The document (available in pdf format here http://bit.ly/2rliVrL) is quite a long one, but it needs to be, as there are many guidelines to follow. In its 136 pages, you can find out exactly what must be done in the process of asbestos abatement and management, in fine detail.

Topics covered include:

  • What is asbestos?

  • Asbestos in buildings

  • What are the health effects?

  • The laws governing asbestos

  • Training, instruction and information

  • Managing asbestos-containing materials

  • Asbestos surveys

  • Personal protective equipment

And much, much more.
