Due to the hazards encountered when dealing with asbestos being so severe, there are laws in place that dictate that anyone coming into contact with or being in the vicinity of the material, needs to be given training in how to keep themselves and their colleagues safe.
At OHSS, we are the most experienced providers of asbestos awareness training in the country and we are passionate about educating everyone about the inherent dangers of asbestos.
With an eye on trying to educate as many people as possible, in particular workers in the construction industry (as they are far and away the most likely to encounter asbestos in their daily work), we run both regular courses open to everyone as well as privately booked courses.
Let’s take a look at the courses we offer
Asbestos Awareness Training & Low-Risk Handling Course (Revised in accordance with the HSA guidance on ACM management & abatement 2013)
This popular one-day course is designed for those most likely to come into contact with asbestos during the normal course of their job. They include:
Demolition workers
Roofers
Plumbers
Architects
Electricians
Quantity and building surveyors
Ground Workers
This course has been created to fall in line with the legal requirement for employers to provide adequate and appropriate training to those likely to be in the presence of asbestos or airborne asbestos particles.
This course will cover all aspects of asbestos monitoring, removal and disposal for companies in the Dublin and wider areas throughout Ireland.
Necessity out of Severity
These regulations are far from needless bureaucracy and red tape. Asbestos is the single most lethal material present in modern buildings and construction as a whole. Despite the potentially fatal after effects of exposure to it, many organisations have failed to even determine if asbestos is even present in their buildings. This means that tradesmen are still regularly finding asbestos inadvertently and it is so avoidable.
Knowing whether your premises contains asbestos or not, is required by law. Ignorance of the fact is not seen as a mitigating factor.
If you think this may apply to you and you’d like more information on dealing with asbestos, visit our website on www.ohss.ie or call us on 01 6905907.
If you come across what you think might be asbestos, get out of the area and give the professionals a call. It can literally mean the difference between life and death.
