Asbestos Awareness Training & Low Risk Handling from OHSS

It has been known for a long time that asbestos is a deadly substance and that those not trained in how to remove asbestos safely shouldn’t attempt it. Sadly, despite this, many employers, local authorities and organisations are failing to identify asbestos in buildings, with the material being regularly discovered inadvertently.

This fact puts both building occupants and workers at risk, while also breaching asbestos regulations - something that can result in H.S.A. prosecution. In order to control the problem, adequate procedures need to be implemented to identify, evaluate and manage asbestos. A central part of that is employee training.

Asbestos Awareness/Handling Training
At OHSS, we offer a 1-day course in asbestos awareness and handling, which aims to improve employee awareness in how to spot asbestos and what to do once suspicion of its existence has been confirmed.

After completing the course, attendees will understand:

  • Existing varieties of asbestos & where they’re found

  • The health impact that asbestos exposure can cause

  • What an asbestos survey is & how it’s used

  • The definition of a basic risk assessment & techniques used

  • PPE & how it’s used effectively & safely

  • Friable asbestos & how its removed

  • Asbestos removal - the basic techniques

  • Why clearance assessments are conducted

  • How air monitoring is conducted & how results relate to control limits

This popular and well-received training is designed in accordance with the new HSA Guidelines on ACM Management and Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (Exposure to Asbestos) Regulations requirements.
