Asbestos – failure to follow asbestos regulations puts lives at risk

Asbestos abatement companies in the 21st century are as busy as they have ever been, despite the material being banned in construction since 1998. Why? Well, that’s because the material still represents the biggest workplace killer in existence. It’s a material that’s been used by people for around 5,000 years, with the name actually meaning ‘inextinguishable’ in ancient Greek.

Once viewed as something of a wonder material in the construction material, it has since been found to be a leading cause of a particularly aggressive type of lung cancer known as mesothelioma. Despite all the articles and studies that have been carried out on the subject, there are some that still do pay it the respect it deserves.

Countless Examples In the News

There have been many examples in the news over recent years, involving tradesmen and other contractors who have failed to follow asbestos regulations and put everyone’s life at risk. You only have to become exposed to airborne asbestos fibres once in your life for fatal consequences to occur, sometimes up to 40 years after the event.

It’s a widespread issue too, as there are countless buildings that were built before the ban came in that still contain asbestos and that require extensive asbestos surveys to be carried out before any kind of renovation works are started. So, if you suspect that it might be present in your business premises, it really doesn’t pay to take chances.
