At OHSS, we offer asbestos safety and management training, as well as asbestos awareness training - something that we've been doing since 2001. One aspect of our work that we'll be looking at today is asbestos surveys - covering what they are and who can conduct them.
So, what is an asbestos survey? Essentially, it's the process of sampling and analysing materials that are suspected to contain the potentially deadly material. It's something that can only be undertaken by a competent company or individual.
The Two Types of Asbestos Surveys That Exist
There are two forms of this kind of survey, which include a management asbestos survey (MAS) and a refurbishment/demolition (RDAS) asbestos survey. The purpose of the MAS survey is to manage asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) during the normal use and occupation of a building, whereas an RDAS survey is needed where the building in question needs refurbishment, demolition or upgrading.
The person carrying out the process must be competent, meaning they have surveyor qualifications (e.g. BOHS P402, RSPH Award in Asbestos Surveying), a thorough knowledge of relevant asbestos regulations, and access to laboratory equipment which meets the standards of the AIMS scheme.
OHSS Asbestos Survey Services
The OHSS team provides quality asbestos surveying services for commercial and residential buildings, with our expert analysts meeting the highest possible standards. As such, we undertake inspection surveys of asbestos in buildings, as well as analysing ACMs in line with current legislation.
Amongst our team, we have a number of highly qualified analysts who conduct asbestos surveys and create comprehensive reports that include recommendations.
