Occupational Hygiene Consultant

Location: Dublin (with nationwide travel)
Contract: Permanent

BACKGROUND:

Occupational Hygiene and Safety Services (OHSS) is a specialist occupational health and safety consultancy providing professional occupational hygiene and safety services to clients across multiple sectors in Ireland. As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a motivated and technically competent Occupational Hygiene Consultant to join our expanding team. OHSS is committed to investing in our people through training, professional development, and ongoing support.


About the Role:
The Occupational Hygiene Consultant will deliver a range of occupational hygiene monitoring, assessment, and training services across diverse client environments. The role involves a combination of autonomous site-based work, technical reporting, and client liaison, supported by office-based analysis and administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct occupational hygiene assessments including:

    • Noise

    • Hazardous chemical agents

    • Hand–arm and whole-body vibration

    • Indoor air quality (including microbial agents)

    • Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) examinations

    • Asbestos air monitoring

    • Quantitative face fit testing

  • Interpret monitoring results against Irish and EU Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs), legislation, and guidance.

  • Prepare clear, accurate, and technically robust occupational hygiene reports.

  • Provide practical recommendations to clients to support exposure control and regulatory compliance.

  • Deliver occupational hygiene and exposure control training to clients and internal staff.

  •  Liaise with clients, site personnel, laboratories, and project teams to plan and deliver surveys.

  • Manage occupational hygiene monitoring equipment, including maintenance, calibration, and performance checks.

  • Assist with preparation of quotations, scopes of work, and technical input to proposals.

  • Ensure all work complies with relevant Irish legislation, EU Directives, Codes of Practice, and recognised industry standards. Contribute to the continuous improvement of OHSS technical and quality systems.


Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Degree in a related discipline (Occupational Hygiene, Environmental Health, Occupational Safety, or similar), or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with 3–5 years’ relevant occupational hygiene experience.

  • Strong technical knowledge in core occupational hygiene disciplines (noise, chemicals, vibration, IAQ, LEV, asbestos).

  • Ability to interpret exposure data and communicate findings clearly to clients.

  • Experience delivering training or presentations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical reporting and client communication.

  • Strong organisational skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Full clean driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide.


Desirable Qualifications:

  • Membership or progress towards membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. BOHS).

  • Consultancy experience and familiarity with quality management systems.

  • Experience with asbestos air monitoring and face fit testing accreditation (e.g. Fit2Fit).

  • Experience working with asbestos safety.

  • Experience in delivering safety based training.
